Abstract
This study examined the purchasing behaviors, wearing experiences, and preferences of Nepalese women living in Korea and Nepal regarding the traditional garment, Chaubandi Cholo. The goal was to provide primary data for the production and design of Chaubandi Cholo. The findings revealed that the most significant discomfort occurred in the chest area and during arm-raising movements. The location of this discomfort varied based on body shape and height, underscoring the need for improvements in garment patterns. In terms of purchasing behavior, tailoring shops were the preferred choice, with quality and size compatibility identified as key factors influencing purchasing decisions. Preferences leaned strongly towards red hues and slightly tight-fitting designs. Although cotton and silk were the most commonly used fabrics, there is a growing need for the development of stretchable blended materials to enhance comfort and fit. The implications of this study for Chaubandi Cholo development are threefold: first, there is a necessity to create stretchable materials that preserve the traditional design while improving fit; second, garment patterns should be revised based on the analyses of Nepalese women's body shapes; and third, there is a need for standardization in sizing for Nepalese women's clothing. Future research should explore ethnic comparisons and the creation of a new drafting system for Chaubandi Cholo.
