Abstract
The purpose of this study is to understand Generation Z’s daily exercise practices on social networking platforms and interpret the existential meaning embedded in these activities based on Giddens’ structuration theory. To this end, this article examined the social and cultural contexts within which Generation Z’s exercise certification practices were formed. This study analyzed Giddens’ structuration theory and the concept of ontological security into a theoretical framework. Subsequently this study analyzed the existential meanings inherent in the “Ounwan” discourse. The findings suggest that, first, Generation Z’s exercise certification practices serve to structure the time of their uncertain everyday lives through repetitive routines. Second, these practices function as experiences that provide individuals with ontological security through bodily sensations. Third, recording and certification through social media functions as a performative process that constructs a reflective identity. These findings suggest that the “Ounwan” discourse transcends mere self-management culture or exercise trends; it represents an existential practice undertaken by Generation Z to maintain continuity and identity in their daily lives in modern society. This study highlights the need to expand the scope of analysis of Generation Z’s exercise certification culture within the context of the philosophy of physical education.
