Abstract

This paper analyzes the hijacking of Yodo-go under the context of the media spectacle in the Cold War era, which has shaped the representation of revolution through secrecy, conspiracy, and terrorism. To this end, the relationship between the secret of rule and the secret of counter power is revisited through Freemason and Illuminati’s strategy, and on that premise, the history of the Japanese Communist Party and the New Left since the 1950s is outlined. And after examining the cultural politics of the Cold War since the 1950s through considering public security governance and media spectacles in Japan, it is explored how the revolutionary politics of the new left of Japan were transmitted into secret and conspiracy narratives. Then, as the hijacking of Yodo-go is narrated as a conspiracy theory in conjunction with the North Korean representation pointed out as a terrorist state due to the Japanese kidnapping, both the Yodo-go Group’s self-criticism and future prospects are under conditions to pass citizens’ suspicions not political consciousness. In conclusion, it is discussed that all of these are possible under the condition of representing North Korea as a nation of secret and conspiracy.
