시모어 번스타인의 피아노 작품 「곤충들 Ⅱ」의 음악적 특징 및 교수방안 연구

피아노를 배우면서 많은 학생들은 각 시대의 독특한 음악양식과 다양한 악곡 속에 담겨있는 음악언어에 눈을 뜨게 된다. 그러므로 피아노 교사는 학생들의 음악적인 면과 테크닉적인 성장에 도움을 줄 수 있는 우수한 레퍼토리를 적절하게 선정하여 가르칠 수 있어야 한다. 균형 잡힌 레퍼토리 선정을 위해서는 현대음악도 반드시 포함시켜야 하는데, 그 이유는 어린이들은 새로운 것을 선입관 없이 받아들일 수 있기 때문이다. 이 연구는 상상력이 풍부하면서도 너무 어렵지 않아 어린이들이 쉽게 접근할 수 있는 중-고급 수준의 현대문헌을 소개하고 효율적인 교수법을 제시하는데 그 목적이 있다. 시모어 번스타인의 「곤충 II」는 대부분 무조성 음악이지만 중심이 되는 모티브와 이야기가 곁들어져 학생들이나 청중에게 친근하게 다가갈 수 있다. 번스타인은 프레이징, 리듬, 악곡의 구조, 음색과 같은 전통적인 음악개념들 위에 신선하고 재미있는 현대적인 작곡기법을 혼합하여 그만의 독특한 작품을 만들었다. 각 곡은 예술적이면서 교육적으로도 매우 뛰어난데, 다양한 아티큘레이션, 손의 위치의 변화, 톤 클러스터, 트레몰로, 단성부와 다성부, 음정 인식 등의 기술이 사용되고 있다. 성공적인 연주를 위해서는 우선 악보를 잘 관찰하고, 각 악곡의 분위기와 특징을 파악한 후, 피아노와 신체의 메카니즘을 고려하여 테크닉적으로 어려운 부분을 연습해야 한다.
Abstract
By learning to play the piano, many students are exposed to diverse style of each periods and realize the musical vocabularies in various compositions. Therefore, piano teachers should be able to select appropriate repertoires in order to motivate the students and to meet their musical and technical needs. Modern music should be included in the early piano education because children can absorb the new music without any preconception. This study is to introduce contemporary piano repertoires for developing musician that are not too “Avant-gard” nor difficult to learn. Insects Ⅱ by Seymour Bernstein are mostly atonal music, but they are more adaptable for students because they have interesting stories and discriptive music. The musical concepts found in Insects are based on the traditional music, in terms of phrasing, rhythms, forms, tone color, and techniques, and yet Bernstein carefully combined some of the modern compositional elements that are fresh and delightful. Each piece is a terrific pedagogical lesson of high quality music for the intermediate level using articulation variety, extended hand positions, tone clusters, tremolos, four part polyphony, interval recognition. For a successful performance, one should observe the score carefully, capture the atmosphere and musical characteristics of each piece, and then practice technically difficult passages considering the mechanism of the instrument and the body.
