Abstract

The objectives of this research is to comprehensively understand consumers experience and responses about smart-tech applying binary method: CIT(Critical incident technique) and free association. Each methodology is useful with its methodological merits. CIT is an effective method to collect consumers’ experience within its context, and free association is useful to catch overall impression of smart-tech. Consumers’ responses to smart-tech were comprised of 3 dimensions: emotional, cognitive, and appraisal dimension. Consumers’ responses to smart-tech were either positive or negative based on their previous technology-related experiences. Most of consumers perceived smart-tech as positive one while some of them had fear due to the ambiguity for smart-tech. Consumers’ responses to smart-tech were diverse according to the stage of consumers’ usage. From these results, it is clear that the development and diffusion of technology are based on the consumption experience of the consumer.
