ChatGPT를 이용한 관광 영어 교수모형 사례 연구

Abstract

This study explores the integration of ChatGPT, an AI language model, into an English for Tourism course designed for EFL learners. Amid the expanding use of Content-Based Instruction (CBI) and English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in language education, this research investigates how ChatGPT’s prompt-based feedback supports learners in overcoming challenges such as grammatical errors, appropriate stylistic usages, and audience-aware language use. Twenty university students engaged in a semester-long course involving three presentations on Korean tourist sites, where they composed, revised, and presented English tour guide texts with ChatGPT’s assistance. Results showed that ChatGPT not only aided in correcting errors but also enhanced learners’ ability to adjust vocabulary difficulty, differentiate between spoken and written styles, and produce contextually appropriate texts for diverse audiences. Survey data revealed increased learner confidence, motivation, and positive attitudes toward AI-assisted learning, although concerns about over-reliance and unnatural AI outputs were noted. The findings underscore ChatGPT’s potential as a cognitive scaffold in ESP education, emphasizing the need for explicit prompt training and critical engagement to maximize educational benefits.
