중국어 속 여성 차별언어의 문화언어학적 고찰

Abstract

As a country from which Confucianism has originated, China hasbeen traditionally built upon this patrilineal society since ancient times. That phenomenon has made the whole country regard women as somespiritless, incompetent beings whose value will never be recognizedwithout any help of men. That being so, because of these particularsocial and cultural influences that have been preserved throughout thehistory, in Chinese terms in relation to women, there is a great deal ofgender-biased terms that would derogate the women. Most of thosegender-biased terms against the women are observed to containmeanings that imply appearances of women and these internal, externalbeauty and ugliness of the women’s personalities, behaviors and others. What is worse is that even though it has nothing to do with any womanin the country, some terms desperately try to indicate something onlynegative about the women with the feminine language determined as amarker. In the light of that, from the cultural linguistic viewpoint, thisstudy basically categorized the Chinese gender-biased terms against thewomen into the component of Chinese Characters - 女, the femininename, the feminine appellation, the proverb and the coarse languageand then, looked into any discrimination against the women containedin those terms.
