Abstract

This study scrutinizes the aspects and distinct features of the regular concerts at the National Intangible Heritage Center, with the objective of discerning the consumption patterns of intangible cultural heritage at its heritagization's culmination. To this end, a considerate analysis was conducted on 179 instances of regular concert data categorized within the Intangible Heritage Digital Archive. The analysis elucidates two principal characteristics: the "performance adaptation of non-performance art genres" and the "pedagogization of performances." As per the National Intangible Heritage Center's founding targets, which focus exclusively on nationally or municipally designated intangible cultural heritages, the endeavor to stage non-performance art genres emerges as a compulsory undertaking. Moreover, the study verifies that performances dedicated to the promotion of intangible cultural heritage intrinsically embody educational elements. Full Efforts to "perform adaptations of non-performance art genres" aimed at a quantitative augmentation of heritage performance content, whereas the "educationalization of performances" sought to enhance the quality of performance content. Furthermore, in addition to archiving both the tangible and the intangible values of intangible cultural heritage, exertions were made to reveal the value of intangible cultural heritage as a "living heritage," although the National Intangible Heritage Center, unlike other national institutions such as the Asia Culture Center or the National Gugak Center, focuses specifically on intangible cultural heritage. Therefore, this study suggests that the ultimate goal uncover the value of intangible cultural heritage as a constantly evolving "living heritage," and these new attempts like performance explanations accompanied by the interpretations should be provided for the heritagization.
