<서평>탈산업사회에서 포스트모던사회로(From Post-Industrial to Post-Modern Society)

Abstract

Since Daniel Bell's The Coming of Post-Industrial Society was published, various discussions around features of the contemporary world have spreaded out. The typical theories are the information society, post-Fordism, and postmodernism, which accept the meaning of post-industrial society and deepen it critically. Krishan Kumar, author of 『From Post-Industrial to Post-modern Society』, who examines in more detail for those theories, sheds light on the relation between the three theories and the new significance and then he reveals explicitly about the critical issues of contemporary society. Through the explanations about the similarity between the three theories and the difference between postmodernism and the others, he gives prominence to the ambivalence of modernity. It is essential that the concept of modernity innovated from the reflective form of postmodern can clarify the limitation of western modernity and the relation between capitalism and modernity at the level of globalization. Following his advice, moreover, we can explore the condition of life in a new century.
