The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of the Hunminglish Pronunciation Instruction (HPI) based on a contrastive analysis for Korean adult learners who lack confidence and competence in English pronunciation. Hunminglish is a unique contrastive linguistic combination of Hunminjeongeum, listed in UNESCO’s Memory of the World, and English. 20 volunteers were divided into an experimental group of 10 learners and a control group of 10 learners for the preliminary diagnostic evaluation, survey, and objective English pronunciation evaluation before and after the training. The experimental group practiced English pronunciation with the HPI and the control group practiced with the English phonetic symbols for 10 months. As a result, the experimental group showed very significant improvement, twice greater than that of the control group in terms of both affective factors and English pronunciation.
