본 연구의 목적은 연결어미의 기능 변화에 나타나는 억양의 문법표지성을 밝히는 데 있다. 그동안 연결어미의 종결 기능에 대한 연구는 문장 구조와 형태에 집중하여 억양의 음향적인 분석이 이루어지지 않은 것이 사실이다. 그러나 구어에서 억양의 역할은 매우 중요하며 억양이 의미 전달적 측면에서 매우 중요한 역할을 한다는 보고들도 있어왔다. 그러므로 본 논의에서는 연결어미의 기능 변화에 관여하는 형태·구조적 측면과 수행 억양의 관련성을 함께 살펴보기 위해 연결어미의 종결 기능이 빈번히 나타나는 대화체 잡담 형식의 자유 발화를 녹음하여 분석하였다. 그 중 연결어미 형태 내에서 각각 종결 기능, 연결 기능, 생략 기능으로 실현된 248개의 억양이 분석 대상이 되었다. 분석 결과 억양은 연결어미의 기능 변화를 변별하는 데 중요한 문법 표지로서의 역할을 한다는 것을 알 수 있었고, 종결 기능에서 서법 기능을 수행하는 데에도 적극적으로 관여한다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 녹음된 실제 발화 자료의 분석은 보다 현실적이고 명시적인 구어 연구를 촉진할 수 있다는 점에서 매우 유용하다. 본 논의는 이러한 목적을 이루기 위한 초기적인 연구들 중 하나로 앞으로 보다 많은 구어 자료를 분석하여 객관화된 이론을 정립하여야 할 것으로 생각된다.
Abstract
This study examines grammatical properties of Intonations in the functional shift of Connectives. There is little research on the function of Connective endings based on any acoustic measurements and analysis. Many language researchers and linguists have long focused on the sentence structures and various forms of Connectives in order to investigate the function of the connectives in modern Korean language. However, some studies have also revealed that Intonations play a important role in producing grammatical functions distinctively in terms of Korean spoken language. With this regard, this paper mainly analyses the functions of the ending, connecting and ellipsis based on the 248 tokens which are recorded from the spontaneous speech of routine conversations. It is obvious that the spontaneous speech shows a great deal of different functions in terms of the Connectives of Korean language grammar. As a result, this work discovers that intonations play a important role in terms of differentiating the function of Connective e7nding, including the function of mood in Korean grammar. It is widely believed that the analysis with acoustic measurements and recordings can articulate more ‘real’ and ‘scientific’ results and findings in terms of identifying and explaining distinctive functions of connective endings. In this sense, this work will be an preliminary that promotes and stimulate a further investigation on grammatical properties of intonations in the research of Spoken Language.
