Abstract

This study explores the way how makeover-show like <Let Mi-In> series presents the standard of women’s beauty by displaying women’s body on television, and ultimately how the alliance of media capital and surgical capital render socially forced, stereotyped and finally internalized women’s body-image as the tool of capital accumulation. For accomplishing this aim of the study, the following aspects are critically examined; the formation of body-image and appearancecentrism (lookism), exercise of consumption-oriented power of mass-media, the attitude and understanding on women’s body, the global influence of surgical medicine jumping on Korean wave, and attitude and their agency of women about cosmetic surgery which are included in the field of this influence. The important point of this analysis lies on whether young women have subjectivity and agency can be interpreted with postfeminist perspective when they participate in the makeover-show on their own initiative as object of cosmetic surgery and treatment for the purpose to remodel their life. The result of this analysis can be resumed that it is hard to say that the participants of the makeover-show obtain subjectivity and agency in terms of postfeminism even though they persue ‘femininity’ passionately.
