21세기 하이테크놀로지 시대로 접어들면서 혁신적인 과학 기기를 이용한 옵티컬(Optical) 작품이 다량 등장하여 새로운 장르를 형성하며 첨단기술을 접목시킨 또 하나의 예술로서 표현양식의 확장을 이루어 가고 있다. 옵티컬 아트(Optical Art)는 미술사 가운데서 예술의 분기점을 이루고 있지만 과학적인 시대에 돌입하여 현대사회를 살아가는 가운데 옵티컬 아트를 기반으로 응용된 디자인들이 다양한 분야에서 실용화되어지고 재조명되어지고 있음을 실감 하지 않을 수 없다. 옵티컬 아트는 선과 색에 의해 착시현상을 유발시켜 시각적인 아름다움을 창출해 내는 순수한 시각예술이다. 구성주의적 추상미술과는 달리 감성과는 무관한 기하학적인 추상미술의 한 경향으로 일상적인 시각으로 전달되어지는 물리적 반응과 심리적인 현상이 결부되어 움직이는 시각적 효과를 유발시킨다. 본 연구자는 현대 도자표현의 새로운 경향에 관해 고찰해 보았으며, 옵티컬 아트(Optical Art)에 관한 이론을 배경으로 선과 색의 착시에 의한 시각적 효과를 도자표현을 위한 수단으로 삼아 독창적인 이미지를 창출해 내고자 하였다. 연구 방법은 반복되는 선과 색의 대비에서 시각적 착시 효과를 끌어내기 위해 기하학적인 패턴과 색상을 결합시켰고 이를 통해 평면의 왜곡과 리드미컬한 움직임을 유도하였다. 제작 방법은 주입식 성형기법에 의해 성형하였고, 색상의 대비에서 오는 착시현상을 극대화 시키고자 도자기용 고화도 안료를 사용하였으며 표면의 장식은 전통기법인 상감기법을 응용하여 연속되는 선의 반복을 통해 시각적인 일루션(Illusion)을 이루어 냈다. 따라서 본 연구자는 현대 도예의 영역 안에서 옵티컬 아트의 특성을 도입․적용 하였으며 상감기법이라는 새로운 방법론을 모색하고 이론적 기반을 수립하여 창의적인 도자 표현연구를 해보고자 하였다.
Abstract
As 21 century begins, the optical work which utilize several scientific devices comes on the stage to form a new genre and which is expending mode of expressions as a art that joins a leading technology. Here upon, Optical Art as being turning point of the art throughout art history, we realize, as we live modern society in the era of scientific epoch, the applied designs are utilized in the various fields and enlightened again. The optical art is a fine optical art which create a optical beauty by generating a optical illusion quo with line and color. It generate a optical effect which moves in conjunction with physical reaction and psychological status quo transferred by ordinary sight as a tendency of geometrical abstract art irrelevant to emotions apart from compositional abstract art. The researcher with theological background of optical art, has studied formation background and definition of the optical art and has tried to produce a creative image by means of optical effects from optical illusion of line and color for ceramic expression. As a study method, geometrical patterns and colors were combined to induce a optical illusion effects by contrast repeated lines vs. colors and the distortion & rhythmical movements was induced through this. As a production method, the injection mould technique was applied and high definition pigments were used and optical illusion was established through continuous repeated lines by applying traditional damascening technique for the surface decoration. Accordingly, the researcher has introduced and applied characteristics of the optical art in the territory of the modern ceramic art and has studied a creative ceramic expression by searching new methodology of damascening technique and establishing a theological foundation.
