한국 현대도예의 회화적 표현에 관한 고찰

회화와 도예는 창조를 근본으로 하여 물질적으로 표현되어지는 예술분야 중 하나이다. 현대에 이르러 예술의 영역은 광범위해지고 있으나, 모든 예술은 하나로 이어져 있다. 그 중에서도 회화와 도예는 역사적으로도, 각 장르의 표현의 방법으로도 밀접한 관계를 지니고 있다. 그리하여 본 연구에서는 회화와 도예의 상관관계와 접목성을 확인하고, 한국 현대도예에서의 회화적 표현을 되짚어봄으로써 두 분야의 밀접한 관계에 대해 고찰하여 한국도예에서 회화적 표현의 무한한 발전가능성을 확인하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 2장에서 그 두 분야에 대한 관계를 고찰해보고,3장에서는 한국 현대도예의 회화적 표현이 어떠한 양상으로 이루어지고 있는지 시기별로 살펴본 후 그 결과로 앞으로 한국 현대도예가 나아가야 할 근본적 방향을 제시한다. 첫째, 세계화로 나아가는 현대시대에는 작가의 개념적 표현이 중시되고, 과거의 불에 의한 우연의 효과보다는 계획된 디자인과 감성표현이 작업에 반영되어 도예가들은 자신만의 조형언어를 이용하여 이미지를 구체화하는 회화적 표현으로 발전시킬 수 있다. 둘째, 회화적 양상을띤 도예작품으로 인해 도예의 가치성과 예술성을 인정받는데 이바지 할 수 있으며, 회화적 양상을 띠는 작품도 다양한 방향으로 발전시킬 수 있음을 확인하였다. 마지막으로 패턴과 장식적 표현 및 이미지차용, 다양한 색의 사용,전통회화의 입체화, 흙의 물성을 이용한 회화적 표현, 추상적 도자조각 등 다양한 양상으로 보여 지는 도예의 회화적 표현을 알 수 있었다. 나아가 도예를 회화의 개념으로만 인식하거나 회화를 도예표현의 하나의 수단으로써 인식 또는 회화적 느낌의 수단으로 인식하는 것이 아닌 세계의 경향에 따라 한국의 정신을 가지고 한국 고유의 현대적 재해석을 통한 진정한 접목으로써 예술적 한국 현대도예로 발전되어 가길 기대한다.
Abstract
Paintings and ceramics are the genres of art materially expressed based on creation. In modern days,diverse genres of art are not only expanding, but also converging. Notably, paintings and ceramicshave been closely related to each other throughout the history of art as the methods of expression. Hence, this study confirms the correlation and connection between paintings and ceramics, andconsiders the painterly expressions in Korean contemporary ceramics to ponder upon the intimaterelationship between the two genres and ultimately to establish the infinite potential of the painterlyexpressions in Korean ceramic art. Chapter 2 of this paper reviews the relationship between the twogenres. Chapter 3 examines the aspects of painterly expressions implemented in Koreancontemporary ceramic art by period and suggests the following integral directions which Koreancontemporary ceramic art should pursue. First, in the global modern world where artists’ conceptualexpressions are valued, rather than the classical accidental effects dependent on fire, planneddesign and emotional expressions are reflected in artworks. In the same vein, ceramists can draw ontheir own formative language to formulate and develop specific images with painterly expressions. Second, painterly ceramic works are conducive to ceramic art’s value and aesthetic quality beingrecognized. Also, the works of ceramic art assuming painterly aspects can be developed further invarious ways. Finally, the painterly expressions in ceramic arts are characterized by diverse aspectsincluding patterns, ornamental expressions, appropriation of images, use of multiple colors, 3Dstereogram of traditional paintings, painterly expressions utilizing the properties of earth, andabstract ceramic sculpture. In brief, Korean contemporary ceramic art will evolve further by followingthe global trends while holding on to the spirit of Korean art and attempting an original Koreanmodern reinterpretation and connection, not by perceiving ceramic art just as a painterly concept orpaintings as a means of expressions in ceramic art or a painting-like means.
