Abstract
In Four Quartets T. S. Eliot addresses the agenda of knowledge and wisdom, especially old men’s wisdom. Eliot insists that the knowledge stemming from experiences has limited values, imposes a pattern, and is deceptive to us. Eliot considers the patterns based on experience and knowledge not positively but negatively and ultimately we should depend on the Bible, especially what Jesus Christ says. In doing so, we come to acquire the wisdom of humility, which includes self-denial. In a word, in Four Quartets Eliot suggests that humans should depend on God’s Words and see the history with detachment.
