대도시와 중소도시에서의 초등발명교육 현황 비교 및 개선 방안 모색 : 초등발명공작교실을 중심으로.

Abstract

The study intends to propose policy suggestions and recommendations for the improvement of invention educationthrough the analysis of its current status at elementary schools in urban area and in suburban area. A surveyquestionnaire was developed to survey perceptions of teachers and students to invention education at 48 elementaryschools in which special laboratories are established. Thirty-three out of 48 teachers (return rate 69%) and 309 out of480 students (return rate 64%) responded to the questionnaires. On the basis of questionnaire analysis, the followingsare proposed. First, contents of invention education should be equally emphasized on idea generation, basic skills andbasic knowledge. Second, teaching and learning must include hands-on activities and discussion. Third, performanceassessment needs to be emphasized and opportunities for students to present their products should be frequentlygiven. Fourth, textbooks for invention education must be developed and widely distributed. Fifth, special supportshould be given for teachersprofessional development. Sixth, financial and administrative supports should beeffectively provided. Seventh, incessant support is required for participating students and special educational policiesfor the disadvantaged such as girls should be planned and implemented. Eighth, additional supports should beprovided for the improvement of invention education in suburban and rural elementary schools in keping pace withurban schools. It also implicates that such a support for suburban and rural schools would contribute to successfulreform of public education.
