說에서의 ‘고양이(猫)’ 작품양상과 주제구현 방식

Abstract

This paper focuses on the aspects of the works and the way of implementing the themes about cats in fables. For this purpose, it first checks the aspects of the works on cats in fables. If they are divided by metaphorical subjects, there are one aspect about describing administrators who perform his duties or not and corrupted public officials and the other aspect about universal human beings and politicians. The way of realizing each themes is ‘accusations against social conditions through contrasts and descriptions’ and ‘human moral cultivations and reflections through substitutions and discussions.’ At first, since the criticism to social conditions through the hostile relationship with rats focuses on the contradictory situation of the time, the writer puts his emphasis on the absurdities that he witnessed and how to solve them, rather than the interest on a cat itself. Therefore, the accusatory and critical tone of argument is strong. On the other hand, in the second case, the writer viewed the cat as a living being. In this approach, the human being was admonished by focusing on the unique nature and habit of the cat. Therefore, it can be confirmed the tone of argument of a persuasion and a reconsideration. In short, the feature of the cat-based fable is that it first focuses on the act of the cat through the narrative. It also confirms that there is an attitude of matching the typicality and universality of cats with human behaviors. Nevertheless, rather than describing the affairs of men as an abstract concept or idea, the writer conveys the theme by showing realities and real lifes.
