초록
“Both in the physical and spiritual realm, great pressure means great power! Although circumstances may bring us into the place of death, that need not spell disaster—for if we trust in the Lord and wait patiently, that simply provides the occasion for the display of His almighty power.” In this quote from Streams in the Desert, we can see a definite turning toward the theology of the cross (theologia crucis), as significant in the twentieth century as it was in the sixteenth century with Martin Luther's Heidelberg Disputation in 1518. Not only significant historically, but urgently needed in the twenty-first century is a turning away from the messages of both the Prosperity Gospel (Health and Wealth) and the Triumphalism of an Evangelical missionary movement that, contrary to the historical record, is able to only emphasize gains and victories and discounts both loss and failure.
