Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the antioxidant and anticancer potential of the purple potato variety Vitelotte, which is known as an edible vegetable with high nutritional value and functional phytochemicals. Vitelotte potatoes contain abundant anthocyanins and phenolic compounds that contribute to oxidative stress reduction and cancer prevention. Methanolic extracts of Vitelotte were prepared and tested against human-derived cancer cell lines (A549, MCF-7, HeLa, DU145, and SNU-1196) using the Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay to assess cell viability. The results revealed a clear dose-dependent decrease in cell viability across all tested cell lines, with significant inhibitory effects observed at concentrations of 0.1 mg/mL and above (p < 0.01–0.001). These findings suggest that Vitelotte extract exerts potent antiproliferative activity against various human cancer cells, possibly through its antioxidant mechanisms. Therefore, Vitelotte may serve as a promising dietary component or natural source for the development of functional foods with chemopreventive potential.
