Abstract
This study aimed to develop and validate a pre-career psychological assessment training video for middle school students. Although such assessments are widely used in career counseling in school settings, issues such as group testing, low student motivation, and limited rapport building often undermine the validity of results. To address these challenges, this study developed a pre-assessment training video to enhance examinees’ expectations and sincerity before testing. The video was developed through four stages—analysis, design, production, and evaluation—based on the instructional media model and the counseling instructional media procedure. The 7-minute, 45-second video included three domains (building rapport, reducing resistance and anxiety, and increasing motivation) and ten instructional items, designed using e-learning principles grounded in educational technology principles. Content validity and quality validity indices (I-CVI) were .98 and .96, respectively, indicating high educational and multimedia validity. An experiment with 96 first-year middle school students showed that the video group reported significantly higher test expectation and satisfaction than the control group(F=15.41, p<.001; t=2.73, p<.01). These results suggest that the developed video effectively enhances students’ expectations and sincerity in career psychological assessments and provides a foundation for developing future pre-assessment training materials in school settings.
