The pharmaceutical industry has been recognized as one of the regulated industries since the formation of a modern pharmaceutical industry, because it is deeply related with the health of individual. As the pharmaceutical industry has developed, many characteristics of the regulated industries has been disappeared. But the necessity of regulations still remains in context of the price determination or the choice of medicines etc. And the governmental regulation on the pharmaceutical industry is still realized broadly in combination with definition of medicine, license of medicine or insurance system. But we could not deny the importance of application of competition law to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the pharmaceutical industry and increase the interest of consumers. In conclusion, the harmony between the regulations and the applications of competition law must be emphasized and the proper understanding of the structural characteristics of the pharmaceutical industry must be premised.
