Abstract
· Research topics: The Impact of Smart Exercise Device Usage Factors on Exercise Continuance Intention: Mediating Roles of Autonomous Motivation and Rehabilitation Attitude · Research background: In modern society, health management and physical activity are crucial to enhancing quality of life. University students, in particular, are at a critical stage for establishing exercise habits, yet their exercise continuity tends to decline due to lifestyle and academic patterns. Smart exercise devices, such as smartwatches, bands, and mobile fitness applications, have emerged as promising tools that can promote participation and adherence to exercise by providing workout tracking, physiological monitoring, and customized feedback. · Differences from prior research: Prior studies have largely applied the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) or the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), focusing on acceptance factors of smart exercise devices or exploring general determinants of exercise adherence. In contrast, this study categorizes usage factors into perceived usefulness, feedback quality, social influence, and habit/experience, and empirically tests their structural relationships with exercise continuance intention through the mediating roles of autonomous motivation and rehabilitation attitude. · Research method: A survey was conducted with university students, yielding a total of 487 valid responses. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS and AMOS, and reliability and validity were assessed. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modeling (SEM) were employed to test the proposed hypotheses. · Research Results: The analysis revealed that perceived usefulness and habit/experience significantly influenced autonomous motivation, while perceived usefulness and feedback quality positively affected rehabilitation attitude. Moreover, both autonomous motivation and rehabilitation attitude were identified as key factors enhancing exercise continuance intention. · Contribution points and expected effects: This study contributes academically by presenting an integrated model that connects technology acceptance factors, psychological motivation, rehabilitation attitude, and exercise continuance intention, thereby addressing the limitations of prior research. Practically, the findings highlight the need for strategies to strengthen perceived usefulness, improve feedback quality, and foster habitual usage to promote exercise adherence among university students. Furthermore, the study provides practical insights for the healthcare industry and university sports policy in designing programs that enhance motivation and incorporate rehabilitation education.
