Abstract
Lateral stability is becoming more and more important as the modular construction extends to mid-rise and high-rise building. In Japan, connections in the modular unit are made strong using internal diaphragm or external one to prepare for earthquakes and they can be full strength rigid joints. To develop the modules to be used in taller modular building, two different types of diaphragms installed in the connection between hollow square section column and C-shaped section beam were tested. The effects of diaphragm on strength and flexural stiffness of column are analyzed in this paper.
