蔚山府先生案의 체제와 성격

Abstract

In Ulsan, there is an extant document file, of which the title is unknown due to damages done to the material. Judging from the structure and the nature of its contents, it surely seems like a ‘Seon'saeng-an’ material, so it is referred to as 'Ulsan-bu Seon'saeng-an' in this article. This material was originally created as a 'Yeong'bu Seon'saeng-an(營府先生案)' file, which contained both the records filed by the Local Military Command(Byeong'yeong) and the records filed by the Local Administrative office(Doho-bu). Such merging of records from two entities was because it was created in a time when the Gyeongsang-do province's Jwa-Byeongma-sa commander was also serving as the prefect for the Ulsan Doho-bu office(Ulsan Doho-bu'sa), since the war with the Japanese in the 1590s. Yet when the Doho-bu office was separated from the military command, the records of the Doho-bu office was also separated, and ended up being the ‘Bu-Seon'saeng-an(府先生案)’ file we have today. In this file, the Doho-bu office records previously included in the ‘Yeong'bu Seon'saeng-an’ file are transferred and rearranged, then new records are added in a chronological fashion. Names of the past Su'ryeong prefects, Yangban dignitaries who served in either Jwasu or Byeolgam posts, or the Hojang and Gi'gwan figures who served as Hyang'ri clerks, are all listed. And issues of certain importance are also described with details. The structure of this 『Ulsan-bu Seon'saeng-an』 is basically the same with other regions' Seon'saeng-an materials, yet the level of details in terms of personnel information and administrative records is simply extraordinary, compared to any region's Seon'saeng-an material. It should be extremely helpful to not only studies concentrating upon the history of the Ulsan region but also historical studies dealing with larger regions.
