The objective of this study is to research the realities of utilizing the ‘Educational Broadcasting System English (hereafter, EBSe)’ programs, investigating the following questions: What are the reasons for the use of EBSe and what are the ways to use EBSe in teaching and learning? What are preferred media, duration and frequency of the use of the EBSe platform? The researchers examined the historical changes made to EBS and to EBSe policies according to the changes in English education policies as well as previous studies of the effectiveness of EBSe in English education. Supported by the EBSe, a large scale on-line survey was conducted by 2,341 viewers of EBSe programs through the EBSe website in Dec. 2016. This study classified and analyzed the survey in terms of 4 groups; teachers, adults including college students, parents, and elementary and secondary school students in Korea. The results showed that adult viewers and parents chose EBSe because it is free whereas teachers chose it because of contents and students chose it due to suggestions from parents. All the 4 groups preferred EBS 2 TV and the EBSe website as access tools. The implications and suggestions for better English education using EBSe were also discussed.
