Abstract
The aims of this study is to explore the experience of resilience in individuals with disabilities through Qualitative Interpretive Meta Synthesis (QIMS), aiming for a novel and in-depth understanding. QIMS is a research method developed specifically for social work, which integrates individual qualitative studies focused on a particular topic to generate profound insights. Eight qualitative papers published in South Korea until September 2023 were included in the final analysis, examining the narratives of 69 individuals with disabilities for synergistic comprehension. The synergistic understanding, derived from the agreed-upon interpretations, identified three main themes: (1) Transitioning into a life defined by disability without the choice, (2) Despair and pains exceeding the acquired disability, and (3) Acceptance of disability and the pursuit of meaning in a new life. Based on the findings from QIMS analysis, social work practices, and policy recommendations were explored to support the resilience practice of individuals with disabilities.
