Abstract

This study analyses the activity of fandom as an example of Twitter hashtag activism. The activity around # the cyberbullying in idol fandom out hash tag movement used as an example. Through this case study, I will discuss the issue of feminism and fandom, and explore how the public opinion is linked to the Twitter platform. Finally I will analyse the possibility of online discussion. In particular, I will show how feminism play a key role in the process of the controversy and discuss the limitations of this kind of feminism frame. Research shows that hash tag activism is used in Korean idol fandom, centered on Twitter, at the point where feminism and fandom collide. The issue around public opinion is an activity that intends to set social agenda, but in this case, it is used to show division in the fandom and at the same time to stigmatize and exclude part of the fandom.
