한국 천주교회 주일 학교 교리 교사 양성 현황에 관한 현상학적 탐구

보편 교회는 급변하는 시대 속에서 새로운 복음화의 필요성을 일깨우며, 교리 교육의중요성과 교리 교사의 역할을 강조한다. 이는 2020년『교리 교육 지침』과 프란치스코 교황의 자의교서『오래된 직무』에서 구체화된다. 보편 교회는 복음 선포자이자 교육자로서교리 교사의 역할을 강조하며 이들에 대한 지역 교회의 전문적인 양성의 필요성과 양성기준 마련의 시급성을 제안한다. 이 같은 배경에서, 본 연구는 한국 천주교회 소속 15개교구 청소년국 주일 학교 교리 교사 양성 담당자 37명을 대상으로 현상학적 질적 연구를통해 한국 천주교회 주일 학교 교리 교사 양성 교육의 실태를 살펴보고자 하였다. 연구 결과에 따르면, ‘교리 교사 양성의 현실’, ‘교리 교사 양성자의 역할’, ‘교리 교사양성 방향’이라는 3가지 범주가 도출되었다. 우선, 교리 교사 양성 담당자는 신원, 역할, 영성의 측면에서 양성 교육을 제공하고 있으나, 여전히 교리 교사의 전문성 부족, 체계없는 양성 교육, 본당 공동체 관심 부족 등의 다양한 도전에 직면하고 있음을 깨닫게 되었다. 그럼에도 교구 청소년국 담당자는 교리 교사 양성을 위한 다양한 프로그램을 제공하며 동시에, 본당 청소년 사목을 지원하고 있었다. 특히, 본당 공동체의 교리 교사에 관한 관심은 교리 교사의 양성과 성장에 중요한 요인임이 드러났다. 이러한 점에서 교리교사에 대한 양성 교육은 교리 교사가 신앙인이자 동반자, 교육자로 성장하도록 지속적이고 체계적인 방식을 통해 양질의 교리 교사를 양성할 방향을 제시한다. 그러므로 본연구 결과는 교리 교사 양성 교육이 분명한 목적과 목표를 지니며, 본당 공동체와 함께체계적이고 지속적인 방식으로 구성될 필요성을 제안한다.
Abstract
Amid rapid social change, the universal Church reaffirms the need for new evangelization, emphasizing the importance of catechetical education and the role of catechists. This is embodied in the Directory for Catechesis (2020) and Pope Francis’s motu proprio Antiquum Ministerium (2021), which call for professional and systematic catechist formation within local churches. Against this background, this study conducted a phenomenological qualitative inquiry with 37 catechist formation directors from the youth ministries of 15 dioceses in the Korean Catholic Church to examine the current status of catechist training. Findings revealed three categories: the reality of catechist formation, the role of formation leaders, and directions for improvement. Despite ongoing efforts emphasizing identity, role, and spirituality, challenges such as limited professionalism, lack of systematic programs, and weak parish involvement remain. The study suggests that catechist formation should adopt a continuous, structured, and community-centered approach to cultivate catechists who can grow as faithful believers, companions, and educators in the mission of evangelization.
