최홍석의 개혁주의 인간론 고찰 - 하나님 형상(Imago Dei)론을 중심으로

초록

본고에서 논구하고자 하는 최홍석은 32년간 총신에서 조직신학을 가르치고 최근에 은퇴한 개혁신학자이다. 그는 1984년 가을 학기부터 2015년 가을 학기까지 인간론, 신론, 교회론을 집중적으로 가르쳤다. 따라서 우리는 그의 인간론에 대한 학문적 개관과 평가 작업이 필요하다고 생각한다. 우리는 2절에서 먼저 최홍석의 신학적인 배경과 그의 인간론적 저술들에 대해 살펴보았다. 그는 총신에서 죽산 박형룡(1897-1978)과 정암 박윤선(1905-1988)의 신학을 배웠고, 차영배교수를 통해 화란신학에 입문하게 되었으며, 화란 깜쁜에 소재한 개혁파교단 신학교에서 독토란두스 과정을 이수하면서 헤르만 바빙크(1854-1921)와 화란신학을 원전으로부터 깊은 영향을 받았다. 이러한 그의 학문적인 배경을 통해 그는 ‘역사적 개혁주의’ 혹은 ‘옛 개혁신학’의 입장에 서서 신학 작업한 신학자라는 사실을 확인하게 된다. 그의 『인간론』(2005)은 방대한 분량을 가지고 있기 때문에, 3절에서 하나님 형상론에 집중하여 살펴보았다. 최홍석은 바빙크나 안토니 후크마의 논의 순서를 따라 자신의 형상론을 크게 세 가지 부분으로 구성하였다. 첫째. 성경적인 자료들을 다루는 일을 먼저 했고, 둘째. 형상론의 역사적인 논의를 제시했다. 자연주의적 견해, 로마교회의 초자연주의적 견해, 루터파, 개혁파(그리고 칼빈의 형상론) 등을 소개하고 나서 20세기의 바르트와 추세를 소개했다. 이러한 논의에 이어서 최홍석은 개혁신학적인 정리를 해줌으로 논의를 마친다. 그가 강조한 것은 구속사적인 조망(4중 상태)에서 형상론을 다루는 것이 중요하며, 전인을 하나님의 형상으로 이해하는 것이 중요하다는 점이었다. 또한 하나님의 형상이신 그리스도가 보여주신 삼중적 관계 속에서의 형상 이해의 중요성과 함의를 강조한 것도 그의 형상론의 특징이다. 물론 우리는 그의 형상론 논의 속에서도 그의 신학하는 자세가 (푈만의 분류에 따르자면) ‘재생적이고 요약적인 기능’에 치중하고 있음을 알수가 있다. 따라서 우리는 성경본문에 대한 보다 폭넓은 주의를 기울이고, 풍성하게 전개된 현대적인 형상론 논의들을 잘 수렴하되 개혁주의적인 관점에서 평가하고 비평하며 논의를 진전시켜야 할 필요성을 절감하면서 논의를 마쳤다.

Abstract

Professor Hongsuk Choi is a reformed theologian who was a professor at the Chongshin Theological Semianry for 32 years and retired recently. He taught Anthropology, Doctrine of God and Ecclesiology intensively from Fall Semester of 1984 to Fall Semester of 2015. Therefore it is necessary to overview and evaluate his Anthropology academically. In second section, we have examined his theological backgrounds and his writings dealing with Doctrine of Man. He learnt the theologies of Dr. Hyungnong Park (1897-1978) and Yunsune Park (1905-1988) at Chongshin Theological Seminary and had been introduced to the Dutch Reformed Theology by Professor Youngbae Cha. And then he had been influenced by Herman Bavinck (1854-1921) and Dutch Reformed Theology profoundly during the period of his study at Theological School in Kampen. By scrutinizing his theological backgrounds, we have known that Choi stood in the 'Historic Reformed Theology' or in Dutch 'oude gereformeerde theologie' and continued to theologize till present. Since his Anthropology is a large volume, we have examined only his Doctrine of Imago Dei in Section Three. Professor Choi divided his discussions on it into three parts, as Bavinck and Anthony A. Hoekema have discussed. In first part, he examined the Biblical data concerning the image of God and then he overviewed the variegated voices from Theological history in second part. In it, he presented the naturalistic viewpoint, supernatural viewpoint of Roman Church, Lutheran viewpoint, Reformed viewpoint (and Calvin's doctrine of image of God) and lastly viewpoints of Barth and the contemporary trends. And then he concluded his discussion by presenting Reformed viewpoint on image of God and its theological implications. He emphasized that it was important to understand the image of God from redemptive-historical perspective (i.e. fourfold states of human nature) and to understand the whole person as an image of God. Moreover, it is a characteristic of his doctrine of imago Dei that he has emphasized to see the image in the threefold relationships which Christ, the perfect image of God shows us well and its practical implications. By examining his discussions on the image of God, we recognize that his Theological attitude is focused on 'reproductive and summary function of Dogmatics' (Pöhlmann). So we feel the need of our discussion to be developed by paying more attention to biblical texts and contemporary theological books and articles on the image of God to evaluate the variegated viewpoints and interpretations from reformed perspective.
