본 연구에서는 예비 초등교사들을 대상으로 기후변화에 대한 기본 인식, 기후변화의 원인, 영향과 대책에 대한 인식, 그리고 기후변화 교육에 대한 인식을 살펴보았고, 그 결과를 중심으로 기후변화에 관한 논의를 하였다. 먼저, 예비 초등교사들은 기후변화가 우리 사회의 중요한 문제이며, 지구환경과 함께 자신의 삶에 큰 영향을 주고 있다고 인식하였다. 둘째, 그들은 기후변화의 원인으로는 화석연료 연소 및 온실가스 배출, 도시화와 과도한 도시 개발 등으로 인식하였다. 셋째, 그들은 전반적으로 기후변화가 생태계, 자연재해, 해수면 등에 심각하게 영향을 미치고 있다고 인식하였다. 넷째, 그들은 기후변화의문제에 정부와 함께 시민들이 주체가 되어 대처할 필요가 있음을 나타냈다. 다섯째, 그들은 기후변화 교육이 매우 필요하고, 기후변화 교육을 통하여 환경 정책과 학생 행동 변화와 환경 보호의 인식을 제고할 필요가 있음을 나타냈다. 예비 초등교사들은 기후변화에 대한 높은 인식을 바탕으로 기후변화의 원인, 영향과 대책, 그리고 기후변화교육 등을 제대로 이해하고 실천해야하는 점에 대해서 강하게 인식하고 있었다. 예비 초등교사들은 기후변화의 원인, 과정과 결과에 관한 지식을 갖추어서 기후변화 문제를 단순히 정서적으로 심각하다는 인식 수준을 넘어서 기후변화에 관한 지적 수준과 실천 역량을 겸비할 필요가 있다.
Abstract
This study examined pre-service elementary teachers' basic awareness of climate change, their understanding of its causes, impacts, and countermeasures, and their perceptions regarding climate change education. Based on these findings, it engaged in a discussion on climate change. First, pre-service elementary teachers recognized climate change as a critical issue for our society, significantly impacting both the global environment and their own lives. Second, they identified the causes of climate change as fossil fuel combustion and greenhouse gas emissions, urbanization, and excessive urban development. Third, they generally recognized that climate change is severely affecting ecosystems, natural disasters, and sea levels, et al. Fourth, they indicated that citizens, alongside the government, need to take the lead in addressing climate change issues. Fifth, they indicated that climate change education is highly necessary and that it is essential to enhance awareness of environmental policies, student behavioral changes, and environmental protection through such education. Based on their high awareness of climate change, they sufficiently recognize its causes, consequences, and alternatives. Through learning about climate change knowledge, they need to develop cognitive understanding and practice competency of climate change issues beyond merely emotional awareness.
