기술의 변화 속도가 빠르고 경쟁이 치열한 경영 환경에서 기업이 지속적으로 성장․발전하기 위해서는 R&D 활동을 강화하고 기술능력과 경영능력을 겸비한 테크노 CEO를 확보․육성하는 것이 매우 중요하다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 국내외의 대표적인 테크노 CEO 8명을 연구 대상으로 사례 연구를 하여 테크노 CEO의 성공조건을 도출하였다. 다중 사례(Multiple case) 분석을 실시한 결과, 도출된 테크노 CEO의 6가지 성공조건은 “탁월한 기술능력”, “비즈니스 마인드의 겸비”, “외부 자원과 아이디어의 전략적인 활용”, “신뢰중심의 사람관리”, “철저한 현장주의”, “강한 실행력”이었다. 또한 6가지 성공조건의 이면에 존재하는 성공동력은 “열정”, “긍정적인 태도”, “운”인 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 테크노 CEO가 기술경영의 핵심요인임을 강조하기 위해, 6가지 성공조건을 M(Management), O(Operation), T(Technology)로 요약하고 본 연구의 시사점을 제시하였다.
Abstract
Rapid technological change and fierce competition in recent years require firms to reinforce R&D activity and retain Techno-CEO with technological capability and management skill to achieve high growth. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the success factors of Techno-CEO on the basis of 8 case studies (3 domestic CEOs and 5 global CEOs). By case analysis, we reveal six critical success factors for Techno-CEO. The six success key factors are “Excellent technological capability”, “Combining with business mind”, “Strategic use of external resources and ideas”, “Trust-centered talent management”, “Field-oriented management”, and “Powerful execution”. And we suggest three fundamental elements based on six success factors; “Aspiration”, “Attitude”, and “Luck”. Finally, we summarize six success factors into 3 keywords (Management, Operation, Technology) to highlight the importance of Techno-CEO as the main factor of MOT (Management of Technology).
