현실적 존재는 선행 세계에 대한 파악을 자신의 구성 요소로 삼아 보다 깊은 미적 느낌의 강도를 성취하고자 한다. 이러한 성취는 현실적 존재가 하나의 예술 작품으로서 자신을 실현했음을 의미한다. 현실적 존재처럼 미적 느낌의 강도를 최대한 성취한 인간, 예술 작품으로서 완전성을 성취한 인간이 미학적 인간의 의미이다. 그런데 인간은 현실적 존재와는 달리 시간 여행을 할 수 있는 사회라는 범주에 의해 해명되는 존재이다. 따라서 인간은 평생에 걸친 모험을 통해 보다 나은 미적 완전성을 지속적으로 추구해야 하는 존재이다. 현실적 존재는 미적 느낌의 강도를 향유한다는 의미에서 본질적 가치를 가지며, 미래를 고려하면서 미래 세계의 여건으로 주어진다는 의미에서 도구적 가치도 갖는다. 현실적 존재처럼 미학적 인간도 미적 느낌의 강도를 향유한다는 의미에서 본질적 가치를 가지며, 미래를 고려하면서 미래 세계의 여건으로 주어진다는 의미에서 도구적 가치를 갖는다. 현실적 존재가 전체 우주와의 내적인 관련성 속에서 본질적 가치와 도구적 가치를 갖는다는 것은 곧 생태적 의미를 함축한다. 이는 미학적 인간의 개념에 생태적 가치를 지향하고 향유하는 생태적 인간의 개념이 함축되어 있음을 의미한다. 나아가 과정철학에서 추출할 수 있는 미학적 인간은 교육이 고려할만한 다양한 사회적 가치-다양성의 존중, 개인의 자유와 자율성 및 권리 존중, 인간 존엄성의 존중, 개인의 사회적 책임, 평등 등-를 비판·검토·조명할 수 있는 준거로 기능할 수 있다. 왜냐하면 과정철학에서 개체는 본질적 가치와 도구적 가치를 향유하며, 개체와 전체는 절묘한 미적 균형을 이루고 있기 때문이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to disclose the human image in A. N. Whitehead's Process Philosophy. An actual entity tries to achieve more profound aesthetic intensity of feeling by accepting prehensions of the past world as its constitution elements. Such an achievement means that an actual entity realizes itself as art work. The aesthetic man refers to the human who achieves the aesthetic intensity of feeling to a large extent and achieves perfection as an art work. However, the human being can be classified as the category of society who can experience time travel in it unlike the actual entity. Therefore, human beings shall constantly seek better aesthetic perfection through adventure all his/her life. The actual entity has intrinsic value in terms of enjoying the aesthetic intensity of feeling, and it also has extrinsic value in terms of being on the datum of the future world by taking account of the future. Like the actual entity, the aesthetic man also has intrinsic value in terms of enjoying the aesthetic intensity of feeling and he/she also has extrinsic value in terms of being on the datum of the future world by taking account of the world. The intrinsic value and extrinsic value of the actual entity into the internal relevance with the whole universe implies ecological meaning. This means that the definition of aesthetic man implies that of the ecological man. In addition, the aesthetic man, who is shown in Process Philosophy, can be a criterion to criticize, examine, and review considerable educational values ; the respect of variousness, the respect of individual liberty, autonomy, and right, the respect of human dignity, and the social responsibility and equality of each individual, and so on. The reasons why the above mentioned can be explained are that the individuals enjoy intrinsic value and extrinsic value in Process Philosophy and an exquisite aesthetic balance between the individuals and the whole can be kept.
