Abstract

Reclassification of simplifying Chinese CharactersThis study classifies the five groups of simplifying Chinese characters: first one is "Grass Style" and "Old Style" characters are transformed into regular script forms, for example 貝-, 報-, 書-; second one is new side components replace or change old ones, for example 補-, 漢-, 僅-; third one is homophonic substitution, for example -表, -才, 衝-沖; fourth one is part of characters are used in place of entire ones, for example 奪-, 兒-, 廣-; fifth one is creating new characters, for example 驚-, 護-, 叢-.
