This study examines the effects of inward FDI and outward FDI on China’s innovation capability. The results show that both inward FDI and outward FDI generate positive knowledge spillover effects that contribute to China’s innovation capability. But their positive effects would not appear as soon as FDIs occur. In addition, the positive effects of inward FDI on innovation capability insist for a longer time period than that of the outward FDI. I also find that inward FDI and outward FDI interact negatively with each other on influencing china’s innovation capability, but their negative interaction effects on innovation capability decline as time passes.
Abstract
