Abstract

A Study on the Educational Issues for China Specialists in Korea Oh, Seung-yul This article deals with issues related to concepts, methodology, and curriculums for successful education of China specialists in Korea. In fact, as an conceptual framework, so-called 'orientalism' overshadows Korea's academic circle for the Chinese studies. In addition, methodology for area studies is rather ambiguous and it is often described as 'interdisciplinary study'. Language skill is required as a prerequisite for a successful China specialist. Inefficient curriculums in the Korea's tertiary education system invoke relatively high opportunity costs in terms and money and time for students. The study suggests debate-oriented and specialized language training courses and well designed social-scientific curriculums for potential China specialists.
