초록

This article reviewed on how Yokomitsu Riichi analyzed and thought about Japan and Japanese through The Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923. Yokomitsu described Japanese climate and nature of frequent earthquakes as destructive as world wars based on Watsuji Tetsuro’s. He thought unprejudiced mind to accept the culture of other countries and traditional empty spritual to mix and unite those culture as the Japanese unique trandition. At this point, Watsuji said to accept the culture of other countries by emptying myself and to unite them to life is Japanese traditional feature. Yokomitsu also thought about how to create new trandition by transforming transfected West culture to ‘Japanese unique feature’. Yokomitsu felt traditional unique emptiness strongly considered as emotional feature of Janpanese literatures through the Kanto Great Earthquake. Because the feeling is natural and intuitive one as contrary to West science in the mid of 1930s, his ‘Japanese unique feature’ became ‘returning to Japanese’ in the end.
