Abstract
This research focuses on the analysis of female characters in four local identities in Thai fictions, namely Ku Cheevit Lae Luadnua (Life and Flesh) by Paitoon Tanya; Sapan Khad (Broken Bridge) by Kanokpong Songsompan; Ying Sao Hang Sainam Mailai Klab (Lady of Non-Returnable Tide) by Cheevee Cheeva and Wan Dokmai Ban (Day of Blooming Flower) by Pramuan Maneerot. Superficially explored, the female characters seem bold, strong-willed and competent. However, the profound investigation shows that all these identities are influenced by the belief of male as dominant sex. Women’s image representing weakness and fury is like destroying fire. Their potential is visible only when no men exist in the family. Women will be praised when they are able to play the opposite sex’ roles. As progressive women, they have to carry both domestic chores and work responsibilities.
