이 논문에서 나는 도미니크 자니코의 레비나스와 마리옹의 현상학에 대한 비판을 검토한다. 자니코의 비판의 요지는 그들이 현상학을 신학으로 전환시켰다는 것이다. 그는 레비나스가 그 스스로 현상학적 방법에 의존하고 있음에도 불구하고, 현상학적 일관성을 결여하고 있으며, 타자성을 성서 전통의 신과 유사한 것으로 간주했다고 비판한다. 또한 그는 마리옹이 현상학에 계시라는 신학적 주제를 도입함으로써 현상학적 중립성을 위반했다고 주장한다. 하지만 레비나스가 현상학적 일관성을 유지하지 못했다는 지적은 타당하지만, 그가 철학을 신학으로 변형시켰다는 비판은 부당하다. 왜냐하면 레비나스가 자신의 철학에서 타인의 타자성을 신과 동일시한 적은 없기 때문이다. 마리옹의 경우, 그가 계시 현상을 자신의 현상학적 탐구의 주제로 도입하긴 했지만, 그 탐구는 신학적 전제가 아닌 마리옹 자신의 현상학적 개념에 입각해서 전개된다는 점에서 현상학적이다. 이러한 나의 입장을 정당화하기 위해, 나는 레비나스와 마리옹에 대한 자니코의 비판을 개괄하고, 다음으로, 그 비판의 타당성을 검증한다. 마지막으로, 나는 자니코가 자신의 비판적 사유의 준거이자 현상학의 원리로 설정한 방법론적 무신론이라는 현상학적 원칙이 후설이 도입한 현상학적 사유의 포괄성을 오히려 축소시킨다는 점을 보여줄 것이다.

Abstract

In this paper, I examine Dominique Janicaud’s position, in which he criticizes French phenomenology’s theological turn to theology In particular, he focuses to theological features of Emmanuel Levinas and Jean-Luc Marion’s works. According to Janicaud, although Levinas rely on phenomenological method to ground his ethical metaphysics, he inconsistently use the method, owing to his adherence to biblical God. Furthermore, Janicaud asserts that Marion violated phenomenological neutrality by introducing revelation as a central theological thema into his own phenomenology. However, I believe that although Levinas show phenomenological inconsistency, his philosophy does not veer into theology. This is because Levinas does not equate othernerss with God in his philosophy. And, since Marion’s philosophy is unfolded in a faithful way to his own phenomenological thought, he also does not perform theology disguised as a quasi-phenomenology. To validate these points, first, I elucidate Janicaud’s critiques of Levinas and Marion, and second, I will reveal weak points of his criticisms. Lastly, my argument will show that Janicuad’s minimalist phenomenology as a methodical atheism reduces inclusiveness of phenomenological spirit, which can includes questions of religious phenomena.
