초록

세계화는 오늘날 가톨릭교회가 보편교회로서의 정체성과 사명을 재확인하는 계기일 뿐 아니라 또한 도전이 되고 있다. 본 논문은 가톨릭 사회교리가 세계화에 어떤 공헌을 할 수 있는지 검토하고, 동시에 세계화된 현 세계의 현실에 응답하기 위해 특별히 어떤 측면을 더 발전시켜야 하는지에 대하여 고찰한다. 이 글은 가톨릭 교회가 제2차 바티칸공의회의 도움으로 세상과 대화하고 시대의 징표에 응답하면서 세상에 참여하게 됨으로써 보편적이 되었음을 지적하면서 가톨릭 사회교리가 신학적 인간학에 기초해 세계화된 현 세계에 대하여 통합적 인간주의와 연대성이라는 규범적 기준을 줄 수 있다고 주장한다. 다른 한 편으로는 바로 그 세계화의 현실로 말미암아 가톨릭 사회교리의 중심에 있는 공동선 개념에 대한 심화된 해석을 발전시킬 필요가 있으며 또한 국제정부기구를 넘어서는 글로벌 거버넌스에 대하여 적합한 이해를 가질 필요가 있음도 주장한다.

Abstract

Globalization provides a context for the Catholic Church to rethink its mission and identity as catholic-universal. This article explores what Catholic Social Teaching can provide for the debates on globalization, and what it has to develop in order to address the reality of the globalizing world. Firstly, it argues that the Vatican II has helped the Church to be catholic and global by engaging in and dialoguing with the world and by responding to signs of the times. Secondly, it maintains that Catholic Social Teaching can offer a normative framework to globalization, which is informed by integrated humanism and solidarity and also grounded in theological anthropology. Finally, it argues that Catholic Social Teaching has to further develop its own tradition, especially in terms of both deepened interpretation of common good, that must be inclusive and dialogical, and also adequate understanding of global governance beyond international governmental organization.
