치매부양자의 생활만족도에 영향을 미치는 요인 연구: 부양부담, 스트레스 대처 및 사회적 지지를 중심으로

초록

본 연구는 치매부양들자의 부양부담 (경제적, 심리적, 신체적), 스트레스 대처 (기능, 방안) 및 사회적 지지 (친척, 친구, 이웃)를 살펴보고, 이들 요인이 치매부양자들의 생활만족도에 미치는 영향을 알아보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 조사대상은 서울시에 소재한 보건소, 치매센터, 치매가족지원 센터를 이용하고 있는 치매부양자들을 모 집단으로 정하고, 탐색조사와 예비조사를 거쳐 완성된 질문지를 이용하여 2008년 7월 4일부터 8월 15일까지 실시하였다. 이와 같이 회수한 질문은 SPSS/WIN 15.0 프로그램을 사용하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 첫째, 부양부담과 관련해서, 치매부양자들은 경제적, 심리적, 신체적 부담을 모두 느끼고 있었으며, 그중에서도 신체적 부담이 가장 큰 것으로 나타났으며, 이들 요인 모두 치매부양자들의 생활만족도와 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 스트레스 대처와 관련해서, 치매부양자들은 정서적인 면에 치중하기 보다는 실제적인 치매문제들을 가족 내에서 해결하고자 시도함으로써 그들의 스트레스에 대처하는 것으로 나타났다. 이처럼 문제해결을 시도하려는 부양자들에게서 생활만족도가 높게 나타났다. 셋째, 사회적지지 면에서는 친척의 지지가 가장 많았고, 사회관계망의 구성요소 중에서는 친구의 지지가 다른 지지에 비해 치매부양자들의 생활만족도에 실제적인 영향을 미쳤다. 이상과 같은 연구 결과를 바탕으로 사회복지적 함의와 후속연구를 위한 제언을 덧붙였다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the care burden (economic, psychological, physical), stress coping (capacity, plan), and caregivers’ (relatives’, friends’, neighbors’) social support of dementia and to assess the impacts of these factors upon their life satisfaction. The target population were caregivers of dementia who were using public health care and dementia clinic located in Seoul, Korea. This study was conducted from July 4 to August 15, 2008. Using a SPSS/ WIN 15.0 program, the analysis of the data showed the following results. First, in the course of providing support within the family unit, caregivers felt economic, psychological, and physical burden and it was noted that physical burden was the greatest. Further, these three burdens all affected their life satisfaction. Accordingly, this result implies that institutional support shall be emphasized in order to lessen the burden within the family of the caregivers. Also, it implies that a support system to heighten the emotional support of women is necessary, consider ing that most of the ca regivers are women, and women’s participation in social activities tends to increase. Second, the caregivers were coping with their stresses related to having dementia, by actually tackling the problems of their dementia family member within their family unit. Then, the caregivers who tackled the actual problems of dementia family members, rather than merely focusing on the emotional aspects, showed higher life satisfaction. Therefore, the program for the caregivers needs to focus on the effective handling of their stresses, and the improvement of their problem-solving capabilities. Third, the relatives’ support was the major source of their social support, as compared to the support of friends or neighbors. However, only the friends’ support meaningfully affected the caregivers’ life satisfaction. Thus, this result implies that in order to increase the caregivers’ life satisfaction, it is necessary to identify and provide the types of social network satisfactory to the caregivers’ actual demands.
