관계적 자율성의 관점에서 본 노부모 돌봄의 자율성 역량과 구조적 조건
The Autonomy Competency of the Elderly Parents Caring and Its Social Structural Condition from the Perspective of Relational Autonomy: Focusing on the narrative analysis of the married couple and their elderly parent's life stories

이 글은 고령화사회 담론 등 노인돌봄의 부담론이 가족돌봄의 신화 속에서 노년기를 부담스러운 존재로 각인하게 하여 가족, 돌봄의 가치를 상실하게 하는 것은 아닌가라는 문제제기에서 시작하였다. 자율성에 기반한 돌봄의 가치와 가족가치가 공존할 수 있는 관계적 자율성의 조건을 탐색하고자 돌봄 당사자들의 생애서사에 나타난 돌봄생애와 그 결과로서 이들의 돌봄의 자율성 역량과 돌봄관계의 질을 살펴보고, 그 구조적 조건을 살펴보았다. 연구 결과는 길게는 20년에서 짧게는 1년에 이르는 사례 가족들의 동거부양의 결과, 20년이 된 가족의 1년이 된 과거 시점과 현재, 그리고 1년여에 이른 가족의 현재와 앞으로 20여년 후의 돌봄 생애가 현재의 관계적 조건의 상태라면 별반 다르지 않을 것으로 예측된다. 이들은 제도적 규칙과 개별 자녀의 도덕적 의무감이라는 발단과 장남과 비장남의 주체만 다를 뿐이지, 노부모 돌봄이 자신과 핵가족의 욕구 충족과 공존할 수 없었거나 이를 억제하거나 포기하면서 돌봄을 이행하는 경로는 유사하게 전개되고 있기 때문이다. 그 결과 자신에게 희생자와 피해자로 정체성을 각인할 수밖에 없게 되는 짜여진 각본 속에서 자신의 돌봄생애에 가치를 부여할 수 없어 자신을 돌봄의 주체로 인정하지 않고 돌봄을 이행할 책임이 없음을 정당화하는 악순환의 과정에 놓여 있음을 전체 사례의 서사구조에서 읽을 수 있다. 노년기 인간 존재를 부담스러운 존재로 각인하는 개인의 서사적 신화들이 모여 가족돌봄의 가치를 부인하게 만드는 집합적 각본을 생성하고 있었다. 이는 돌봄에 개입된 이후로는 해당 가족으로 하여금 돌봄책임을 전담하게 하는 악순환 과정이 전개되기 때문이다. 돌보고 있거나 돌보려는 의지를 지닌 개별 가족의 책임이행을 지지하거나 나눌 수 있는 대안이 매우 빈약하기 때문에, 형제자매간 돌봄 분담의 공정성을 구하면서 친족관계 갈등과 돌봄부담 누적이라는 감정적 비용을 치르다 돌봄의 동기와 의지를 상실하게 된다. 이에 반해 현행 노인돌봄서비스제도는 중산층의 자녀와 함께 사는 경우 가족이 노인을 돌볼 의사가 있다는 것을 전제하며, 노인을 정책 수혜의 사각지대에 놓이게 하는가 하면, 돌보는 가족을 지지하거나 지원하는 서비스는 전무해 돌보는 가족이 돌봄에 치여 돌봄이행의 역량을 부식시키기를 기다리고 있는 형국이라 할 수 있다. 돌봄은 의무나 강제로 지속될 수 없으며, 돌보려는 의지를 가진 사람들의 자율성을 독려함으로써 이들의 참된 돌봄의 윤리를 행하려는 노력을 지지할 때 확보될 수 있다.
