Abstract
This papers discusses married adults childrens' justification of moral identity on their aged parents caring. The results was drawn on the narrative analysis of their life stories from the perspective of relational autonomy. The moral identity is negotiated all the life time. It is differently constituted and changed according to whether the case is the first-born son's or not, whehter he/she is child or in-law, and one's lifecourse. The eldest son's couple said that they took care of their parents 'forced' by the institutional filial piety norm. They denied their moral subjectivity as a care giver. One eldest son's couple, who had no negative relationship with their parents, heartly accepted caring responsibility at first. At the result of the 10 year long caring, they justified their caring life as meaningless, since it sacrifices their needs of nuclear family and their own life. Most non-eldest children's couple were free from geneological ascriptive constraint, they built their moral subjectivity as a care giver based on the reasonal rationality such as the logic of context, the occupational and religious identity. They still felt elderly caring as a moral obligation disciplined with the moral knowledge. On the contrary, one of them shows moral understanding and emotional rationality on the relationship with the cared. And most non-eldest regret the absense of intimacy and commuincation with their parents. They are faced with a moral dilemma in which caring for oneself and one's nuclear family compete with his/her aged parents caring. This dilemma invoke them to search for reciprocity and equity among their brothers and sisters at great emotional expense. Based on the perspective of relational autonomy, this paper revealed that we have to get out from the moral politics of familialism and institutional filial piety norm to make the value of family caring and autonomy coexit. To transform the rule of reciprocity and equity based on the reasonal rationality into moral understanding and emotional rationality, it is revealed that we have to change moral boundaries among the society, the family, and the individual.
