Abstract

This research empirically analyzed political impact according to the use of Traditional Media and New Media. The paper focused especially on correlation between the use of media and selective exposure: the use of media and polarization. As the result, people who support candidate Park Geun-Hye showed selective exposure when they read more newspaper, the Traditional Media and people who support candidate Moon Jae-In showed strongly selective exposure when they use more internet and SNS, which is New Media, and also showed selective exposure when they watch more TV, the Traditional Media. Also, polarization caused by a user's attitude towards the candidate was built up when using New Media. Thus, it is shown that people who use New Media show more selective exposure and polarization than those who use Traditional Media. So, the selective exposure is not affected by which media one uses but affected by one's existing propensities such as ideology. Therefore media is more of traditional reinforcement theory and it does not change an individual's political attitude.
