성 베드로 파브르의『영적 일기』 (Memoriale)에 나타난 영적 식별에 대한 이해: 성 이냐시오 로욜라의『영신수련』식별 규칙을 중심으로

교황 프란치스코는 여러 차례 다양한 권고와 담화 등을 통해서 오늘날의 교회는 영적 식별이 필요하다고 강조한다. 본고는 성 베드로 파브르의『영적 일기』에 나타난 영적 식별의 지혜를 연구하며 오늘날 교회에 요청되는 영적 식별의 이해를 파악하여 제공하고자 한다. 성 파브르의 영적 식별은 식별만 따로 떼어서 이해할 수 있는 것이 아니라, 그의 인격적인 하느님 체험의 맥락에서 이해할 때에만 비로소 깊이 있는 이해를 얻을 수 있다. 성 파브르의 하느님 체험은 사랑과 자비의 하느님이다. 그의 하느님을 자신의 마음 중심에 두는 내적 태도의 표현은 신심과 갈망이다. 그는 갈망을 통해서 하느님의 뜻을 찾고 신심을 통해서 하느님의 현존을 찾는다. 그러므로 성 파브르의 영적 식별은 기도와 활동에서 하느님께 이르는 길이다. 오늘날 불확실성 속에서 내적 회심과 구조적인 쇄신을 요청하는 교회는 성 파브르가 어떻게 당대의 갈등과 도전을 직면하며 식별을 통해서 하느님의 뜻을 찾고 발견하였는지 귀중한 영적 가르침을 배울 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
Pope Francis urges that today’s Church needs spiritual discernment. This paper studies the wisdom of spiritual discernment in St. Peter Faber’s Memoriale in order to provide an understanding of spiritual discernment for today’s Church. St. Peter Faber’s spiritual discernment can be understood in depth by examining his personal relationship with God as a merciful God. Consequently, his inner attitude to God can be summarized in devotion and desire. By pondering desire, he finds the will of God; by cultivating devotion, he seeks God’s presence. So his discernment is the way to God in prayer and action. Today’s Church may learn from St. Peter Faber’s valuable spiritual teachings how he found the will of God through discernment in times of conflict and challenge.
