초록
This study examines the cultural preference for the symbolic use of the number three in the Korean and Andean worlds. Through an ethnomathematical approach, the symbolic and cultural functions of this number within each worldview are analyzed. The results reveal, first, that in Korean culture the number three is preferred compared to its neighboring Chinese culture, while Andean culture also privileges the number three more than the Mesoamerican one. Second, in the Korean tradition, the number three is associated with the notions of infinity, totality, perfection, transformation, and balance, whereas in the Andean worldview, the concept of mediation (chawpi) plays a particularly central role.
