초록
In this article, we aim to highlight the identity and attitude of the modern subject in the face of the modern society - the big cities and the various inhabitants - in the ‘so-called’ modern poet, Baudelaire. In the Baudelairian poetic universe, particularly in Les Fleurs du Mal, we can see the instability and revolt of the poet-subject in the face of the progress of modernity and the replacement of spiritualism by materialism, which has led modern man to the fragmentation of the subject; in other words, crisis of his own identity. To understand well what causes the unstable and troubled state of mind in a man like Baudelaire, we analyze the poems by accessing the essential notions: modern subject and modernity, as contemporary and essential terms used by the poet. Thus, it is clear that in his poetic universe, Baudelaire describes the various aspects, sometimes coherent, sometimes contradictory, of the modern man lost in the middle of his time, having different identities in order to overcome the existential crisis of his be. Today this modern subject is just a wanderer in the life of uncertainty. He is situated in the midst of unstable society in an increasingly vast and ambiguous circle of modern life; not only at the level of everyday life, but also of human existence.
