롤랑 바르트에게서 ‘문화’의 의미에 대한 고찰

본 논문은 바르트의 저술들에서 ’문화‘의 개념을 일별하는 데 있다. 이를 위하여, 우리는 여러 문화 개념에 관한 이론들을 살펴보았다. 바르트와 앙리 르페브르가 제시한 문화 개념 사이에 유사성도 지적하였다. 문화로서 인간의 창조적 행위가 반복 재생산되면서, 문화는 일상으로 스며든다. 바르트 연구에서 고유한 개념인 신화는 문화와 유사한 뜻으로 사용된다. 사회 구성원들에게 문화는 예술과 창조 활동의 산물이라기보다는, 프티부르주아가 사회 구성원들에게 확산시키는 일종의 이데올로기이다. 이 구성원들에게 문화는 사고의 전환을 일으키는 창의성의 산물이 아니라, 참조하고 따라야 할 지표이다. 바르트 연구에서 문화는 일종의 코드로 다루어지기도 한다. 우리는 이 문화 코드가 다른 코드들과 일종의 화학적 결합을 이루면서 새로운 의미생산에 주요한 역할을 한다는 점도 지적하였다.
Abstract
This article aims to discern the concept of “culture” in the writings of Roland Barthes. To this end, we have briefly traced the theories of the concept of culture and compared the cultural concepts presented by Barthes and Henri Lefebvre. As human creative acts are repeatedly replicated as culture, culture permeates daily life. In Barthes, 'myth' is used as a meaning similar to 'culture'. For the members of society, culture is not the product of artistic and creative activities, but rather a kind of ideology that the ‘petit-bourgeois’ secretly diffuses. This is how culture exists as a clue to refer to and follow. In Barthes' research, culture is sometimes treated as a kind of code. We have also pointed out that these cultural codes play a major role in the production of new meanings by forming a kind of chemical link with other codes.
