강화학파 관련 새 자료의 발굴과 강화학파 연구의 과제 : 이광려의 간찰 자료를 중심으로

본고는 최근 학계에 알려진 문중본 필사본 『이참봉집』에 수록된 서무수(徐懋修) 수신의 서찰 116통과 국사편찬위원회 소장 『이참봉집』에 수록된 서무수 수신의 서찰 24통을 대조한 결과, 국사편찬위원회 소장본의 서찰 24통은 문중본 필사본의 서찰에서 벗어나는 예가 없음을 확인했다. 이에 따라 본고는 문중본 필사본 『이참봉집』에 수록된 서무수 수신의 서찰 116통을 중심으로, 그 서찰의 발송 시기를 추정하고 그 서찰에 담긴 내용을 개괄했다. 이러한 기초적인 고찰을 거쳐, 이광려의 민생 중시 관념과 고구마 재배 노력을 살폈으며, 이광려의 학술사상의 일단을분석했다. 이광려는 1756년에 서무수에게 보낸 서찰에서, 목민관으로서 실심(實心)을 지니고 백성을 구휼하라고 조언을 했다. 이광려는 양명학에 대해 비판적 거리를 두었지만, 역시 양명학으로부터 영향을 받아 심학을 중시했으리라 추정된다. 또한 그가 서무수에게 보낸 여러 서찰들을 통해, 국사와 국토지리에 깊은 관심을 지녔고, 불교 및 노장사상을 깊이 연구했으리란 정황을 짐작할 수 있다. 이상과 같이 이광려가 서무수에게 보낸 서찰을 중심으로 이광려와 서무수의 관계 및 이광려의 지적 모색을 검토하면서 관련 자료의 발굴에따른 강화학파 연구의 신 방법론에 관해 다음과 같은 제안을 했다. ① 관련 자료를 발굴하고 치밀하게 검토함으로써, 강화학파 지식인들의 개인 사상과 실천행위에 대해 면밀하게 조사할 필요가 있다. ② 강화학파 지식인과 강화학파와 밀접한 관련을 지닌 주변인물과의 교류 양상을 분석함으로써, 강화학파 지식인들의 지적 관심사와 사상적 경향을 면밀하게 검토해나가야 한다. ③ 강화학파의 지식인과 강화학파 이외 지식인들의 교류 양상을 살펴서, 강화학파 지식인의 지적 모색과 문화적 활동이 당시의 시대사조와 어떤 관계에 있었는지 검토할 필요가 있다.
Abstract
This paper is to survey the contents of 116 letters sent to SeoMusu(徐懋修), which is included in Leechambongjip(李參奉集), a manuscript possessed by Lee Gwangryeo(李匡呂)'s descendants, and to estimate the issued dates of each one. The manuscript was found recently and it includes 24 letters in Leechambongjip possessed by National Institute of Korean History either. Furthemore, I tried to inquire his effort to stabilize the livelihoods of the public and to analyze his thought. Lee Gwangryeo investigated various things which might had medical effect to improve health of the people. Though it was at first for the purpose of treating diseases of his family and his own, his sypathetic mind had him to extend his interest to the public. Also he tried to spread sweet potatoes among the public to relieve famine, and it was continued to December 1771. It is not difficult to imagine that such was not for himself but for the public. Lee Gwangryeo basically assumed a critical attitude toward Yangming's study. But it is also presumable that he inclined toward Yangming's study in that in his third letter he recommended Seo Mugu who at that time was a governer to relieve the public with Silsim(實心, faithful mind, sympathetic mind). It is also confirmable with his letters to Seo Mugu that he was interested in national history and geometry, and also studied Buddism and Taoism conprehensively. Finally I proposed some new directions in inquiry of Ganghwa (江華) school. ① It is needed to investigate idea and practice of literati belonged to Ganghwa school with closer scrutiny for the new material. ② Their Intellectual interest and intention are also needed to be examined by analyzing the phases of exchange between them and those who were related to Ganghwa school ③ It also should be scrutinized what connection there was between their intellectual, cultural activities and the spirit of the times, by analyzing the phases of exchange between them and those who were not belonged to Ganghwa school.
