국어의 후두자질 제약

국어에서 경음과 격음은 음절말에서 실현되지 않는다. ‘ㅎ’도 음절말에서 실현되는 일이 없고, 음절말에 위치할 때 뒤에 오는 장애음이 유기음으로 변한다. 이 두 현상의 공통점은 ‘음절말’이라는 위치와 ‘후두자질’이다. 범언어적으로 음절말에서는 음절초에서보다 제약되는 소리가 많고, 특히 음절말에서 후두자질이 실현되지 못하는 현상이 많이 나타난다. 본 논의는 후두자질이 음절말에서 실현될 수 없다는 ‘후두자질 제약’을 ‘음절의 끝소리 규칙’과 ‘순행적 유기음화’의 원인으로 설명하고, 그 과정을 자질수형도로 제시한다. ‘음절의 끝소리 규칙’에서 경음과 격음이 평음으로 실현되는 것은 경음과 격음의 후두자질인 [+spread glottis]와 [+stiff vocal card]가 음절말에서 연결끊김(delinking)이 일어나기 때문이다. ‘순행적 유기음화’는 앞음절 음절말의 ‘ㅎ’이 후두자질만 가진 소리이기 때문에 음절말에서 실현되지 못한다. 그래서 분절음은 탈락되고, 후두자질은 뒤음절의 앞음절로 옮겨가서 실현되는 현상이 나타난다.
Abstract
In korean, it has phonological phenomena that some obstruents don't represent in syllable-final position. It is to be classified into two phenomena. The first is a syllable-final laryngeal neutralization, the second is a fricative and an affricate change into a implosive. This paper deals with the first phenomenon as syllable-final laryngeal neutralization is caused by the 'Laryngeal Constraint'. It is called 'Laryngeal Constraint' that laryngeal feature is only licensed in a consonant if it immediately precedes a [syllabic] segment in the same syllable. Laryngeal distinctions cannot occur in syllable-final positions because laryngeal nodes delink in that position. The aspirated of /h/, in Korean, is also the phenomenon, due to the 'Laryngeal Constraint'. In Korean, /h/ is the segment that only has laryngeal feature and not supralaryngeal feature. So, the sequence of /h/ in coda position and plain plosive in onset position of the next syllable occurs fusion of laryngeal feature of /h/ and supralaryngeal feature of plain plosive due to 'Laryngeal Constraint'.
