이 연구에서는 터키의 지리적 환경을 둘러싼 특색과 과거 동서 문명을 꽃피웠던 주요 유적 도시를 중심으로역사와 특색을 살펴본다. 터키는 유럽과 아시아에 걸쳐 있는 독특한 구조의 나라로서 주로 아나톨리아로 구성된 아시아 쪽 영토는 국토의 97%를 차지하고 보스포루스 해협 등을 끼고 있는 유럽 쪽 영토는 3%에 불과하다. 터키는아시아와 유럽, 아프리카를 연결하는 곳으로 지정학적으로 굉장히 중요한 위치에 자리 잡고 있다. 그 결과 일찍부터문명이 발달했고 세계에서 가장 오래된 문명인 수메르부터 세계 최초로 철기시대를 연 히타이트와 알파벳을 만든 페니키아, 로마, 오스만에 이르기까지 동서양을 풍미했던 제국이 잇따라 지배를 했다. 터키는 지리적 이점으로 국제 무역의 중심지였으며 군사, 경제적으로도 다른 주변 국가들에 비해 우월한 위치를 차지할 수 있었다. 터키에는 이스탄불을 비롯해 트로이, 안탈리아, 카파도키아 등 유서 깊은 역사 도시들이 많다. 이들 도시에는 역사적이고 아름다운유적들이 즐비하지만 도굴을 당하거나 훼손되어 있어 체계적으로 보존을 할 방법이 강구되어야 할 것이다.
Abstract
I examine the characteristics of Turkey’s geographical environment, history and major historic cities where the ancient East and West civilization flourished at the same time. Turkey is a geopolitical important place connecting Asia, Europe and Africa. As a result, the civilization developed from early on in Turkey. From Sumer, the world’s oldest civilization, to the world’s first iron-user Hittite, the alphabet creator Phoenicians, Roman Empire and Ottoman Empire ruled Turkey sequently. Turkey was a center of international trade with its geographical advantage, and was able to take advantage of its military and economic superiority to other neighboring countries. There are many valuable historical treasures in these old cities in Turkey such as Istanbul, Troy, Antalya and Cappadocia etc. However, these historical treasures have been stolen or damaged. These historical valuables should be systematically preserved.
